As
a child growing up in Palm Springs,
California, Stephanie began showing an
interest in art by emulating her artist mother. At an early age she favored
paint boxes over dolls and soon began expressing her everyday experiences on
paper. Throughout her schooling,
art was a major focus in her studies.
She began selling her paintings at off campus street fairs while studying at the
University of California at Berkeley.
Although Stephanie constantly experiments with various
mediums, she has found the most joy in watercolor.
Like many other artists, she appreciates the immediacy and spontaneity of
this medium. She is inspired by the
works of John Singer Sargent, Winslow Homer, and other American Impressionists.
Her new works
on paper are being created using acrylics. This new direction has
allowed her to explore her art language in a different painting medium
and still retain her watercolor style.

Stephanie’s passion for painting is captured in those
special moments in time she feels compelled to share with her viewers. “They are
portraits of a singular moment, captured immediately by camera and quick
sketches then transformed by my memories, emotions and style. I hope to share that moment with the viewers, as well as to
evoke memories of similar moments in their own lives. I also hope to provoke a pause, to cause the viewer to stop
and consider how the commonplace and the everyday can be special.”
Her travels throughout the United States, England, Italy and
France have been the inspiration for many paintings.
Always on the lookout for that convergence of circumstance, composition,
light and shadow that create a magic moment
The
majority of her works involve the human figure, as the interaction between
people and their environment is what she finds to be most dynamic. This is also how she approaches portraiture, preferring to
paint her subjects engaged with their surroundings, rather than as a static
object simply facing the viewer.
Much
of her work has been commissioned specifically for restaurants, hotels and
office buildings, as well as private collections.
Her work has been seen in magazines, interior design publications and
print ads, and is in the collections of an international clientele.
After living in Southern California for many years,
Stephanie currently makes her home in the San Francisco Bay Area near wine
country.
When not in her studio, Stephanie can be found pursuing her
other passions, reading, gardening and traveling, armed with her camera looking
for subject matter.
